The BJP-led NDA government moved the Jammu & Kashmir Reorganisation Bill, 2019, in Lok Sabha to bifurcate the state into two UTs Jammu and Kashmir with a legislature similar to Delhi or Puducherry, and Ladakh without one like Chandigarh.
7.10 pm: Parliament approved abrogation of special status given to Jammu and Kashmir under Article 370. The resolution was passed in Lok Sabha by division of votes with 351 members in support and 72 against it while one member abstained.
6.40 pm: “Over 41,500 people lost their lives in J&K due to militancy since 1989,” said Shah in Lok Sabha. He further said that scrapping of Article 370 is not a historical blunder but in fact the Modi government is “rectifying the historical blunder”.
“Law and order situation in J&K has not deteriorated; all actions taken were precautionary,” clarified Shah.
